The 2014 American Collegiate Hockey Association [ACHA] Men's Division 2 Coach of the Year Award, presented by Harrow Sports, goes to Steve McIsaac of the University of New Hampshire, as selected by the ACHA Men’s Division 2 Awards Committee, which includes Regional Ranking Coordinators and former winners of the Coach of the Year.  This is the first ACHA Men's Division 2 Coach of the Year Award for Steve.
         
Steve will be presented his ACHA Men's Division 2 Coach of the Year Award at the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach of the Year Celebration on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club in Naples, FL.
 
The 2013-2014 season for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats ACHA Hockey Team was filled with many great accomplishments.  The team finished with a 27-7-0 overall record, earned their first Super East Collegiate Hockey League (SECHL) Championship title defeating a very tough William Paterson University in overtime 5-4 and took home their first ACHA Men’s Division 2 National Championship defeating Florida Gulf Coast University 5-3.
 
Yet, despite the ultimate success of the Wildcats, their season started slow. The team faced an uphill battle after starting the season off with a record of 3-4 through the first 7 games.  However, with help from assistant coaches Scott Behan, Brett Berger, and Chris Laganas the team found a way to come together and bought into the systems which helped pave the way to the National Championships by rattling off 13 wins in a row over the course of almost three months before losing another game.
 
McIsaac said that he thought the team’s “come-together moment-of-the-year” occurred when they were able to witness the powerful influence of the Make-A-Wish Foundation after hosting the Granite State Cup charity game against Keene State College.  The team won the game 8-1, however, it was interacting with and hearing the stories of the two families that benefited by simply playing a hockey game that really sunk in with the team.
 
The 2013-2014 season marked the fourth consecutive trip to the National Tournament for the Wildcats, where prior to this year their highest finish was 8th in the country. The team’s success this year was largely due to the depth of the roster and strong leadership by the senior class.  
 
McIsaac began his coaching career as an assistant under his former hockey coach Jerimey Braley at New Hampshire. He held the assistant position from 2006-2007 thru 2008-2009.  McIsaac was then named the Head Coach of the team at the start of the 2009-2010 season and has since amassed a 99-55-7 record.  Following the 2012-2013 season, Steve was honored as the ACHA Men’s Division 2 Northeast Region Coach of the Year.  He was also chosen last summer as an assistant coach for the 2013-2014 ACHA Men’s D2 Select Team that traveled to the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, and Slovakia, winning 5 out of 6 games.
 
Outside of the rink, Steve owns Homestead Adjusters, an independent insurance adjusting firm.  Steve Currently resides in Hampton, NH with his wife Jennifer and their infant son Kamden.
