Thorold holds on for 5-4 win against Buffalo

The Thorold Blackhawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Buffalo Regals on the way to a 5-4 win.

Thorold made the score 5-3 on a goal by Kyle Tanev at 11:46 in the third period, and Buffalo got as close as 5-4 when Colin Farell scored 16:19 into the third period.

The Blackhawks stifled the Regals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Thorold kept Buffalo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Dentico made 37 saves on 42 shots.

Thorold also got points from Kevin Lavoie, who also had one goal and one assist and Zach McQuade, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Thorold also had goals scored by Owen Sobchak and Carl Greco, who scored one goal each. In addition, Thorold received assists from Christian Difelice, Joe Mitchell, and Michael Sharp, who each chipped in one.

The Regals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Buffalo was led by Michael Faliero, who racked up one goal and two assists. Faliero scored 4:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Others who scored for Buffalo included Christian Nati and Ryan Cox, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Matt Mahony, who had one.

Ian Shorthouse recorded 19 saves for the Blackhawks. Thorold incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Regals incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
