The game between the Buffalo Regals and the Fort Erie Meteors was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Buffalo emerged with a 4-2 win.
Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jake Battistoni's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.
Michael Faliero was all over the ice for the Regals, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Faliero scored the first of his two goals at 5:27 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Ryan Cox picked up the assist. Faliero's next tally made the score 4-2 Buffalo with 29 seconds left in the third period. Adam Dentico assisted on the tally.
Buffalo had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.
Buffalo also got points from Battistoni, who also registered one goal and one assist. Christian Nati also scored for Buffalo.
The Regals were unable to stop Fort Erie from sending pucks towards the net, and the Meteors eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Fort Erie's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Meteors finished with 46 penalty minutes.
Fort Erie was helped by Jesse Pereira, who racked up one goal. Pereira scored on the power play 14:39 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Meteors had gotten the advantage when Buffalo's Jeff Avoilo was sent off for hooking. Sam Quaranta picked up the assist. Fort Erie also got a goal from Jared Marino as well. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Austin Carroll and Richard DeMarco, who each chipped in one.
Adam Dentico made 34 saves for the Regals on 36 shots. Buffalo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Matt Baker rejected 13 shots on goal for Fort Erie. The Meteors registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
