KEENE, NH – The Keene Swamp Bats pounded out 10 runs on 15 hits to beat
the Laconia Muskrats, 10-2, in New England Collegiate Baseball League
(NECBL) action on Tuesday night at Alumni Field.

Keene’s record moves to 8-3 on the season and 7-0 overall when scoring
first. Laconia falls to 5-8.

Right-hander Tyler Skulina (Strongsville, OH/Kent St.) earned his first
win of the season bringing a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Laconia
right fielder Regan Flaherty (Portland, ME/Vanderbilt) broke up the
no-hit bid on a two-out single through the left side. Skulina wrapped up
his first win in two starts going six innings, yielding two runs (one
earned) on three hits, no walks and one punchout.

Muskrats left-handed starter England Smith (Nashville, TN/Walters St.
CC) suffered the loss on three-and-one-thirds innings pitched, 10 hits,
seven runs (all earned), one walk and three strikeouts.

Ahead 2-1 headed into the bottom of the fourth, the Swamp Bats posted a
six-run frame highlighted by a leadoff home run from first baseman
Esteban Gomez (Houston, TX/San Jacinto Coll.) – a laser to right
centerfield for his first of the season – and a two-run double to left
field off the bat of Alex Chittenden (Independence, MO/Louisville) and
Keene never looked back.

Centerfielder Michael Burruss (Marietta, GA/Georgia Southern) also
notched an RBI single in the frame while Brett DeLoach (Blackshear,
GA/Georgia) plated a runner on a groundout to short.

Laconia cut its 2-0 deficit in half in the top of the fourth as Will
Johnson (Elm City, NC/UNC-Wilmington) scored from second base on a
fielding error by Gomez.

Keene third baseman Ryan Fuller (Lyme, CT/UConn) gave the Swamp Bats a
2-0 lead in the third with a single to left centerfield scoring Tom
Conley (Quincy, MA/UMass-Amherst) from second base.

In the first inning, left fielder Kevin Brown (Northborough, MA/Bryant
Univ.) opened up the scoring as he drilled a triple down the right field
line plating Chittenden who reached base on a single with one out.

Burruss led all Swamp Bats in the RBI department knocking in three runs
including two on a single to left field in the fifth. Burruss finished
the night going 2-for-5 with one run scored.

Chittenden went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in from
the two-hole while Conley was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Gomez was
2-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI.

The Swamp Bats bullpen brass of Anthony Cervone (Beacon, NY/St. John’s),
David Mahoney (Colchester, CT/UConn) and TJ Ferguson (Westmoreland,
NH/Franklin Pierce) held the Muskrats scoreless over the last three
innings on two hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Keene returns to action tomorrow at home against the North Adams
SteepleCats at 6:30 pm.
