KEENE, N.H. – Alex Birsh and Sal Accardi, both Quinnipiac University alumni, have been chosen as the broadcast team for the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Stars vs. Team USA Collegiate National Team exhibition contest at Fenway Park on Monday, June 27 at 12 pm.
Birsh is now in his second season as the broadcaster for the Keene Swamp Bats and third in the NECBL. Accardi is also a three-year veteran and is now in his first season with the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide.
Both broadcasters were chosen to represent the NECBL out of a 12 person pool from the league.
“It still hasn't sunk in that the NECBL has chosen me to represent them in the broadcast booth. It makes me proud to call myself a Keene Swamp Bat, as well as a Quinnipiac University Alum,” said Birsh. “I can't wait to represent both in one of the finest fields in the world.”
Birsh enjoyed a successful senior year at Quinnipiac as he and fellow senior Corey Hersch won the Best New Student Organization Award for co-creating the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sports Network (QBSN).
Staffed entirely by students, QBSN is the sole online broadcast network for most Quinnipiac athletics. It is the exclusive broadcast format for men's and women's soccer, field hockey, volleyball, baseball, softball, lacrosse and women's ice hockey. Students can also cover a specific team and write for the QBSN blog.
Accardi wears multiple hats for the Raging Tide serving as their Assistant General Manager and broadcaster, so it’s no surprise to see Accardi also tabbed to the broadcast team for Monday’s exhibition contest in America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.
“I really felt honored to be selected for this game; these three years in the league have been a phenomenal experience that I will always look back on. I feel privileged to be able to represent Quinnipiac as well,” said Accardi. “Quinnipiac is the school that gave me my start and really defines who I am as a broadcaster. I am so glad to see every year that more and more Quinnipiac students make their way to a different NECBL team every summer, and to know that I will be joined by a fellow Bobcat in the booth at Fenway really makes me proud.”
Quinnipiac is well represented in the NECBL this summer as five broadcasters from the university are manning the play-by-play duties for their respective clubs. Accardi and Birsh are joined by juniors’ Kyle Brennan (Newport Gulls) and Luke Mauro (Danbury Westerners) along with senior Miles McQuiggan (Mystic Schooners).
Quinnipiac University is a private, coeducational university with 5,900 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students. Consistently ranked among the best universities by U.S. News & World Report, Quinnipiac offers 52 undergraduate majors and 20 graduate programs plus the JD program. Quinnipiac is located in the heart of New England, about 90 minutes from New York City and two hours from Boston.
