The Buffalo Regals had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Port Colborne Pirates.
Buffalo made Pirates' goalies to work all game long, taking 33 shots and forcing 26 saves. Marcus Hlywka made 10 stops and Jake Danson made 16. The Regals' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Port Colborne power plays. Buffalo bested its season scoring average. The Regals average 2.1 goals per game.
Buffalo was helped by Nicholas Matos, who finished with two goals and one assist. Matos scored the first of his two goals at 1:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Buffalo. Ryan Cox assisted on the tally. Matos' next tally made the score 7-3 Buffalo with 1:15 left in the third period. Buffalo also got points from Colin Farell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Michael Faliero, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Matt Mahony as well. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Colton Anstey, who had two and Taggart Ledyard and Tyler Casillo, who contributed one a piece.
Port Colborne stifled the Regals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.
The Pirates were led by Cody Levasseur, who tallied one goal and two assists. Levasseur scored 17:59 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Buffalo. Spencer Fox picked up the assist. Port Colborne additionally got points from Fox, who also finished with one goal and one assist. James Mewse-Detrich also scored for Port Colborne. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Cody Mintz and Jordon Boyko, who each chipped in one.
Adam Dentico recorded 25 saves for Buffalo. The Regals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Port Colborne incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
