Thorold erases deficit to stun Buffalo, 5-4

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Thorold Blackhawks battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the Buffalo Regals.

Thorold never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Blackhawks was down 3-1 after a goal by Buffalo's Christian Nati at 9:37 in the second period. Thorold knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Owen Sobchak at 4:43 in the third period. The Blackhawks netted the game winner at 13:10 in the third period on a goal by Sobchak.

Thorold was led by Kevin Guzzo, who racked up one goal and one assist.

The Blackhawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Thorold additionally got points from Kevin Lavoie, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Sobchak, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Joe Mitchell, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Zach McQuade also scored for Thorold. In addition, Thorold received assists from Drake Hart, Chris Goulet, and Nick Sacco, who each chipped in one.

The Regals managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Buffalo finished below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Regals were helped by Michael Faliero, who registered one goal. Faliero scored 2:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo. Ryan Cox picked up the assist. Buffalo also had goals scored by Justin Andriaccio and Colton Anstey, who each put in one. More assists for Buffalo came via Jordan Matos, who had two and Travis Hicks, Tyler Casillo, Matthew Shumate, and Matt Mahony, who contributed one a piece.

Ian Shorthouse recorded 12 saves for Thorold. The Blackhawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Adam Dentico made 13 saves for Buffalo on 18 shots.
