Janzen leads Welland to shutout victory over Buffalo

The Welland Jr. Canadians used a sparkling performance by Chris Janzen to take down the Buffalo Regals, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Welland's 4-0 shutout victory.

The Jr. Canadians pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 34 penalty minutes.

Welland was led by Max Cipriano, who had one goal. Cipriano scored 5:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. JC Thivienge provided the assist.

The Jr. Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 13 chances. Welland kept Buffalo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Dentico made 35 saves on 39 shots.

Welland also had goals scored by Cole McKnight, Jason Lacroix, and Matt Sutherland, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Christian DiFonzo, Adam Barron, and Matthew Mateljan, who contributed one a piece.

The Regals' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Welland power plays. Buffalo forced the Jr. Canadians goalie Janzen to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Janzen rejected 37 shots on goal for Welland. The Regals incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
