A stellar performance between the pipes by Braydon Banitsiotis helped the Ancaster Avalanche defeat the Buffalo Regals, 5-1.
Buffalo's power play was ineffective against Ancaster's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.
The Avalanche were led by Luke Zupan, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Zupan scored 16:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ancaster. Eric Eustace assisted on the tally.
Ancaster excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Avalanche's offense rang up 31 shots on the Regals' net. Ancaster was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time.
Ancaster also had goals scored by Alex Panov, who had two and Blake Luscombe and Jake Milligan, who each put in one. More assists for Ancaster came via Harrison Domagala, who had two and Jake Bain, Cole Nagy, Elijah Williams, Ryan Knill, Marcus Baird, and Zach Niemanen, who each chipped in one.
Buffalo was led by Colin Farell, who scored the team's only goal. Farell scored 3:15 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Ancaster. Colton Anstey picked up the assist.
Banitsiotis rejected 25 shots on goal for the Avalanche. Ancaster registered two goals on two power play opportunities. For the Avalanche, Nagy and Milligan were ejected from the contest. Adam Dentico made 26 saves for the Regals on 31 shots. Buffalo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
