Behind a great game by Neil Trimm, who had two goals and two assists, the Wichita Thunder defeated the Tulsa Oilers, 5-2.

Trimm scored at 16:55 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wichita and again while 17:36 into the third to make the score 5-2 Wichita.

The Wichita penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and four majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Wichita stifled Tulsa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Thunder's defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring two goals and taking 15 shots. Wichita's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.8 shots per game it averages.

Wichita also got a goal from David Inman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Gregor Hanson, Matt Summers, and Travis Wight, who contributed one a piece and Chad Painchaud and Ryan Flanigan, who each chipped in two.

The Oilers were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and four majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game Tulsa had been spending in the box. The Oilers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Thunder to score on any of their five power plays. Tulsa was below its usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 24.0 the Oilers average.

Tulsa was helped by Gary Steffes, who had one goal and one assist. Steffes scored 10:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tulsa. Ryan Menei provided the assist. Tulsa additionally got points from Ben Gordon, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Kevin Regan rejected 17 shots on goal for Wichita. The Oilers' starting goalie, Mike Garman, made 23 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Ian Keserich, who stopped seven shots. Tulsa registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
