Jake Cousins comes to Newport after finishing his junior season with the UPENN Quakers. He had a solid season for the Quakers, in which he appeared in eight games, making seven starts, working a total of 44 2/3 innings while allowing just 21 earned runs and recording 45 strikeouts. In three seasons with the Quakers, Cousins boasts a 13-5 record with three complete games (including one shutout) and 99 strikeouts.

While at Wheaton Academy High School, Jake lettered four times in baseball and twice in football; he was the team captain of the baseball team as a senior, and is a two-time scholastic achievement award recipient, as well as a National Honor Society and National Athletic Honor Society Member. He is the son of Aimee and Kenneth Cousins.
