Phil Pohl was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 44th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft from Cooperstown High School in Cooperstown, New York, but he did not sign.  He was also drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 28th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.   Pohl began his professional career with the Oakland Athletics organization back in 2012 with their Arizona League affiliate.  In that same season he moved on and played in the New York-Penn League with the Vermont Lake Monsters in the A’s system.  In 2013 Pohl saw time with the Beloit Snappers of the Mid-West League and the Stockton Ports in the California League.  Combined between the two teams Pohl played in 57 games while posting a .228 average with 9 HR’s and 20 RBI’s.  In 2014, Pohl played with the Beloit Snappers and the Sacramento River Cats in the A’s system, between the two teams he played in the 80 games and put up a .242 batting average with 6 HR’s and 35 RBI’s.  In 2015, Pohl played only 10 games in affiliated ball.  He spent five games with the Midland RockHounds in the A’s organization and five games with the New Britain Rock Cats in the Rockies farm system.  Between the two team he went 3x24=.125 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s.
