Coach Mackey joins the Black Bear staff for his first season of coaching in the West Coast League. Jason has been involved in the local baseball community for many years. He is well known for his work with pitchers, serving as pitching coach for the Pacific Tech Construction American Legion Team, as well as at Kalama High School (2014) and Kelso High School (2011-2013). As head baseball coach at Castle Rock High School (2006-2010), he led the Rockets to three consecutive regional championship game appearances. As a player, Jason was named the Defensive Player of the year at Kelso High School in1992, and went on to play at LCC, where he was NWAACC 1st Team All-League. Drafted in the 11th round by the Cleveland Indians in 1993, Jason had a 2.15 ERA with the Burlington Indians and was named Northwest Minor League Player of the Year in 1993. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 1994 and knee surgery in 1996, Jason retired in 1998. Jason resides in Longview where he is a teacher at Olympic Elementary. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Carey. They have been married for 20 years and have two children, Ethan (19) and Emme (11).
