Before Minnesota: Graduated from Legacy High School in 2014 and was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 36th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. Led Colorado Class 5A in strikeouts both as a senior (114) and a junior (93). He held a 6-2 record and 1.45 ERA in 68 innings his senior year and pitched four complete games, include a 12-strikeout shutout. Gilbreath received second-team All-Colorado honors from the Denver Post in 2014 and was named first-team All-Conference twice. Was named 2014 Legacy High School Male Athlete of the Year. Was named academic all-state first team for four straight seasons from 2011-2014.
