Boe was selected to the 2013 Oakland A's Area Code team where he played along side former Merchants Shea Sbranti (University of Arizona) and Nick Allman (Fresno State) and his high school teammate Tim Susnara (University of Oregon). He was part of a pitching staff that included High School All Americans Justin Hooper (UCLA commit) and Joe Demers (Washington commit). He then went on to pitch his senior year at St. Francis High School in Mountain View, CA - the #1 ranked high school team in the country. Boe was named the #65 ranked high school prospect in the nation going into the 2014 MLB draft by Nine Baseball. Richard signed a NLI with Arizona State, but never stepped foot on the Tempe, AZ campus because of a coaching change. He is now a freshman at De Anza College in Cupertino. For the Merchants, he will primarily be a relief pitcher, but will also swing the bat as a DH and first baseman
