Matthews, 24, played in 25 games for the Douglas Diablos of the Pecos League in 2014, batting .325 with a home run and 20 RBI’s. The former Hardin –Simmons University backstop was the full-time bullpen catcher for the Grand Prairie (TX) AirHogs of the American Association when they captured the south division title in 2013. Matthews is the first player from his hometown of Canyon, Texas (population 13,303), to play professional baseball.
