This is Baynun’s third TWL season and fourth showcase season, having previously played in the Arizona Winter League. Went to three tryout camps with the Major League Scouting Bureau as a 46-year-old knuckleball pitcher in the summer of 2014.
2014- Compiled .200 batting average (3 for 15), scoring three runs and walking on. Struggled with control issues on the mound. Made four pitching appearances, one start and threw five innings, allowing seven hits.
2013- Led the TWL in pitching starts in 2013 with six, primarily throwing an ephus pitch and knuckleball. His ability to give his team, the Thunder, innings allowed manager Greg Tagert to rest his staff for the playoffs and take the 4-team single elimination championship playoffs. Highlight was retiring Jose Canseco on a fly ball to centerfield in the retired slugger’s only plate appearance against him. Was 1 for 18 as a batter.
In his annual participation in Curt Schilling’s 100-inning game for ALS in Quincy he went 11 for 25 and as a pitcher retired former Boston Red Sox star Lou Merloni.
2012- Hit .118 (4 for 34) in Arizona Winter League in 2012 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and one walk.
A professional blues musician who plays bass and six-string guitar, he has appeared on “The Tonight Show” and entertained the TWL in their postseason banquet with his rendition of self-written song, “I Love You, Louisiana.”
