KJ was named to the final 26-man roster for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team on June 30. 

He was also named a Freshman All-American by D1Baseball.com, Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger; Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

KJ earned Pacific-12 Conference Freshman of the Year honors and was all-league in his first season at Oregon State. He hit .309 (68-220) in 58 games, with 10 homers and 60 RBIs. He played first base and catcher.

Selected in the 25th round of the MLB draft by Cleveland in 2014 as the 758th overall pick, he was a three-year letterman at the Punahou School in Honolulu. He was first-team all-league and honorable mention all-state as a sophomore and junior, and honorable-mention all-league as a freshman.
