Draft Status: 2014 – Atlanta Braves (32nd Round, 973rd Overall)

Baca comes to Newport after finishing his first season with Arizona State University with a 1-0 record and 3.38 ERA. With the Sun Devils this season, Baca faced the Arizona Diamondbacks during the 2015 MLB Spring Training game in March. Coming out of the bullpen in the ninth, Baca gave up two runs on three walks to the National League team. 

When facing NCAA competition this season, Baca made 11 appearances out of the bullpen. Most notably was a game on February 20 when, in the 9th against Texas Christian University, he retired the side in order on just six pitches.

Before ASU, Baca was an All-County and All-Region pitcher at North Gwinnett High School in his hometown of Suwanee, GA. He was drafted in the 2014 MLB draft in the 32nd Round by the Atlanta Braves.
