In his first season with the Wolverines, Drew Lugbauer made an impact. Named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, Lugbauer appeared in 41 games (31 starts) batting .211. In 114 at-bats, Lugbauer notched 24 hits, 11 runs and 8 RBI. He was named the No. 37 freshman on Perfect Game’s Top 100 list, and the fifth-best prospect in the Big Ten for the 2017 draft by D1Baseball.com. He was also named the best prospect in the Big Ten for the 2017 MLB Draft by Perfect Game.

Before Michigan, Lugbauer was a Perfect Game Third Team All-America selection and an All-Northeast Region first team selection at Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, N.Y. He was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 21st Round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft. As a senior, he hit .430 with eight home runs, 23 RBI and a .930 slugging percentage, and was named to the all-state, all-section and all-region teams and was the Poughkeepsie Journal’s Player of the Year in 2014. He was likewise named the Dutchess County and MSG Varsity Player of the Year his senior season
