Hamm prepped at Amador Valley HS in Pleasanton where he led the Dons to the NCS Championship in 2010. He then went on to play at Chabot College where he batted .329 with 46 hits as a freshman in 2011. He was named the Golden Gate Coast Conference Player of the Year, a Northern California CCCAA All American and a Pacific Association Division JC All American 2nd Team selection.

After an injury led to a redshirt in his sophomore season, Hamm played on the Golden Gate Coast Conference Championship team at Chabot in 2013. He is now in his junior season at Cal State Monterey Bay, where he is batting leadoff for the Otters and hitting .260. He leads the team in runs with 34 and leads the CCAA Conference in stolen bases with 22. He is another utility player that the Merchants will utilize at a number of different positions this summer.
