Returning for his second straight season with the Newport Gulls, Van Vossen is coming off a 2014 campaign in which he was the ace of the Michigan State Spartans pitching staff. In 15 starts, Van Vossen went 8-3 with a 2.65 ERA, striking out 77 batters in 98.2 innings of work.
Van Vossen, who was one of the top starters in the Newport Gulls rotation in 2013, went 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA, striking out 36 batters in seven appearances (six starts). Van Vossen also pitched two games in the playoffs, getting the win in Game 1 of the NECBL Eastern Division finals against the Mystic Schooners.
A 49th Round draft selection by the Texas Rangers in 2011, Van Vossen went 9-2 with a 3.17 ERA in his first two seasons with the Spartans, combining to strike out 53 hitters. Before going to Michigan State, Van Vossen attended Forest Hills Central High School (Forest Hills, MI), where he participated in the Michigan East-West All-Star Game at Comerica Park in 2011, while also being named to the all-conference team.
