Gateway Grizzlies All-Star catcher Landon Hernandez is returning for another season. 2014 will mark the fifth season for Hernandez in a Grizzlies uniform.
“Signing Landon was a main focus of ours this offseason,” Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. “He’s coming off his best offensive year and has turned into one of the league’s best players.”
In 294 career games with the Grizzlies, Hernandez has batted .261 with 52 home runs and 172 RBI.
“I’m extremely excited to be returning to Gateway,” Hernandez said. “GCS Ballpark is like a second home to me. The past four seasons have been amazing and I’m really looking forward to the 2014 season.”
The Palm Desert, CA native hit a career-high .290 in 2013 with 16 home runs and a career-best 65 RBI en route to being named team MVP. He played in a career-high 88 games.
Hernandez has also shined defensively, throwing out 40% of the attempted base stealers in his four seasons, including a career-high 55% in 2013.
“I’m looking for one thing in 2014, and that’s a championship,” Hernandez commented. “I know that we are striving for that one goal as a team. Now it’s our job to get it.”
