Before they become teammates at Elon, Harry Austin and Mitch Conner will spend a summer in Alexandria together.  Austin, a sophomore from Wexford, Pennsylvania, has great speed and a good mindset on the base paths.  Austin spent the majority of the spring playing left and center field, which should make him a likely candidate for a spot somewhere in the Beetles outfield when he arrives.  Although he didn’t see a lot of time on the field, Austin was impressive when he got his chances.  Averaging about a run scored and hit per start, Austin should be a great addition to a club dedicated to causing havoc on the bases.  In his red-shirt season, Austin hit .298 in 58 games for the Phoenix, stealing 23 bags in 27 attempts.  The 5’7” 150 pound speedster won’t make the squad on time, but should be able to move right in to an outfield role sometime in mid-June.  Look for Austin to make a splash in left field, especially in the second half of the season.
