Last summer, it was the trio from Pepperdine that led the Beetles all over the diamond.  With Denny Duron manning the middle infield, Robert Dickmann holding down a spot in the starting rotation, and Nick Gaudi closing out games, the Waves were the strongest on the club.  This summer, the Beetles hope that tradition will continue with catcher Trent Diedrich and right-hander Bryce Uhrig.  Uhrig spent the majority of the spring in the bullpen, but boasted an excellent walk to strikeout ratio.  The junior from Santa Barbara, California will play in Minnesota this summer, further south than his summer stint in Alaska last summer.  He made 16 appearances for the Peninsula Oilers, with 31 strikeouts in just over 41 innings.  Opponents hit .245 against him.  Uhrig joined the Waves last fall after two years at Santa Barbara City College and made an immediate impression, taking home MVP honors in Pepperdine’s Blue and Orange World Series.  Look for Uhrig’s strong arm out of the ‘pen in the middle to late innings.
