Bobby, starting his first season in Traverse City, was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft from University of Arkansas. In 2016, with single A Quad Cities of the Midwest League, he hit .215 with 16 RBI and 17 doubles. Bobby made his pro debut with the Tri-City Valley Cats of the short-season New York-Penn League, hitting .351 with 30 RBI, adding eight doubles. In that 2015 season, Wernes was the league’s top hitter, earning himself an All-Star Bid. Before being drafted, in his senior year as a Razorback, Bobby hit .279 with five homers, 7 doubles, 6 triples, and 27 runs batted in. As a junior, he was named to the SEC’s All-Defensive Team.
