Ryan comes to the Beach Bums after taking 2015 and 2016, away from the game. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15th round of the 2011 MLB Draft from Palm Desert HS in California but elected not to sign, then by the Colorado Rockies in the 33rd round of the 2012 MLB Draft from Riverside Community College, also in CA. In his last season, in 2014 with the Tri-City Dust Devils, he hit .233 with 3 homers, eight doubles, three triples, and 15 RBI in 41 games. Garvey started his career with rookie-level Grand Junction, played for two seasons there, hitting .304 in 2012 and .232 in 2013. Ryan’s father, Steve, played 19 years in MLB with the Dodgers and Padres. He was a 10-time All-Star and was the NL MVP in 1974.
