Shay Smiddy joins the Gulls this summer from the University of Louisville. In his freshman season this spring, Smiddy recorded the final 3 outs to close out a 1 hit performance for the Cardinals against Omaha. He went on to finish the season with an ERA of 3.66 through 14 games and picked up 20 strikeouts. Batters were only able to hit a .222 average against Smiddy this spring.

 While attending Defiance High School in Ohio, Smiddy lead the team in single season victories at 13 and finished his senior year 13-0 with an ERA of 0.57 and 96 strikeouts. Smiddy was ranked number 8 in the state of Ohio in his 2016 class by Perfect Game and number 9 in the state by Prep Baseball Report.

 Before Texas Christian, King attended Coppell High School where he tossed a no hitter his senior year. King was named First Team All-American by Perfect Game as well as Louisville Slugger All-American as a senior. Charles King was ranked the 126th top prospect in the nation by Baseball America.
