Paul Campbell arrives in Newport after finishing his sophomore season with the Clemson Tigers. During this past season, he appeared in 12 games, while pitching nine innings, allowing 12 earned runs and recording nine strikeouts. During his freshman season, he appeared in 13 games, pitching 20 innings, allowing 27 hits and striking out 24 batters.

Campbell attended Salisbury School in Connecticut, where he was a four-year letter winner in baseball. Ranked by Perfect Game as the fifth best player and No. 2 right-handed pitcher in the State of Massachusetts for his 2014 class, during his high school career, he played in the Area Code Games for the Northeast Yankees, where he had a team-best 0.83 ERA and led his team to a 24-0 record and a league championship.

His hometown is Malden, Massachusetts, and he is majoring in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management at Clemson. Campbell was acquired by the Gulls after starting the summer with the Winnipesaukee Muskrats, where he was 0-1 in six games, two of them starts, with a 2.84 ERA, striking out 21 batters and walking just 10 in 19 innings of work, scattering nine runs (six earned) on 17 hits
