Jessie Smith hopes every outing could go as well as Tuesday, as Smith threw seven scoreless innings to carry the Maui Na Koa Ikaika (15-16) to a 1-0 victory over the Sonoma County Grapes (10-21) at Iron Maehara Stadium.
Danny Sandoval helped the Maui Na Koa Ikaika take the lead for good in the eighth inning. After Kalaika Kahoohalahala singled, Sandoval came to the plate with the game scoreless in the eighth inning and singled, plating Kahoohalahala.
Vinnie St. John improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Maui Na Koa Ikaika. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered no hits.
Dustin Crenshaw was charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just eight innings, walked one, struck out eight, and allowed one run.
