Boxscore | Game Recap | Boxscore Text Version | Gamelive Version

The Newark Bears' Mercado comes through in the clutch, upends the Worcester Tornadoes, 4-3

Story by Narrative Science.

Orlando Mercado drove in the go-ahead run to give the Newark Bears (27-55) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Newark Bears hung on to beat the Worcester Tornadoes (24-57) 4-3 on Monday.

DAngelo Jimenez singled to start the sixth. He then went from first to second on a stolen base. Finally, Mercado came to the plate with the score tied at two, and doubled, scoring Jimenez and Juan Martinez.

The Newark Bears got the win thanks in large part to Mike Ness's dominant, nine-strikeout performance. Ness allowed three earned runs on 10 hits and one walk over eight innings.

Kevin Cooper (4-8) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just eight innings, walked two, struck out eight, and allowed four runs.
