The Winnipeg Goldeyes defeat the Sioux City Explorers after late game single, 5-3

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (54-40) and the Sioux City Explorers (41-53) passed the lead back and forth five times on Tuesday at Shaw Park, but in the end the Winnipeg Goldeyes pulled out a 5-3 win over the Sioux City Explorers.

Josh Mazzola had two extra-base hits for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. He homered in the second inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the eighth inning.

The Sioux City Explorers had no answer for Brian Beuning, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Sioux City Explorers managed just two hits off of the the Winnipeg Goldeyes' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his three innings of work.

Kaohi Downing improved to 4-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered one hit.

Aaron Correa (2-3) took the loss for the Sioux City Explorers. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
