Pitchers had a tough day during the game between the Gary SouthShore (10-11) and the Newark, as the two teams put up 31 runs combined in a 20-11 the Gary SouthShore win.

The teams totaled 41 hits in the game.

Nine runs in the opening three innings allowed the Gary SouthShore to easily put away the Newark. An RBI single by Mike Massaro, an RBI single by Rico Washington, and a two-run single by Sean M. Smith during the first inning and a steal of home by Massaro and a sacrifice fly by Washington in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Gary SouthShore.

Adam Klein had three extra-base hits for the Gary SouthShore. He doubled in the first inning and tripled in the third and seventh innings.

Chuck Lukanen improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Gary SouthShore. He allowed three runs over 2 1/3 innings. He struck out four, walked none and surrendered three hits.

The Gary SouthShore hammered the Newark pitching as six hitters had a field day, combining for 16 hits, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Mike Ness was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 12 runs in five innings, walked two and struck out three.
