The River City Rascals survive the Southern Illinois Miners rally, escape with 7-5 victory

The Southern Illinois Miners (49-35) weren't able to come back from the big hole they dug themselves into against the River City Rascals (41-44), and the Southern Illinois Miners lost 7-5 to the River City Rascals after falling behind by four runs in the seventh inning.

The Southern Illinois Miners scored on a solo home run by Javier Herrera in the eighth inning and a two-run double by Herrera in the ninth inning. Unfortunately, the Southern Illinois Miners weren't able to take the lead back.

Corey LeVier had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the second inning, homered in the fourth inning, and doubled in the sixth inning.

Preston Vancil picked up the win for the River City Rascals. Vancil allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks while striking out four over six innings of work.

Herrera racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Southern Illinois Miners.

Shawn Gilblair (10-5) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just five innings, walked none, struck out four, and allowed three runs.

The River City Rascals were sparked by Doug Sanders and LeVier, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.
