The Joliet Slammers (20-28) built an early lead against the Normal CornBelters (16-30), scoring four runs in the first inning, en route to a 5-3 win on Sunday at Silver Cross Field.

The Joliet Slammers held off the Normal CornBelters, as the Normal CornBelters were unable to overcome a three-run third inning deficit.

The Normal CornBelters scored one run in the fifth on an RBI single by Yasel Gomez. Unfortunately, the Normal CornBelters weren't able to take the lead back.

David Fox racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Joliet Slammers. He homered in the first inning and singled in the third inning.

Steven Maxwell struck out seven hitters en route to the the Joliet Slammers win. Maxwell allowed two earned runs, eight hits and no walks over eight innings.

Tyler Lavigne was charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out nine, and allowed five runs.
