An exceptional effort by Cody Gray spurred the Florence Freedom (23-32) to a 6-0 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts (26-29) on Monday at Standard Bank Stadium.
Gray kept the Windy City ThunderBolts off the board during his seven innings of work. Gray allowed two hits, two walks and struck out six.
The Florence Freedom left no doubt in the outcome with two runs in the seventh. The Florence Freedom scored in the seventh on an RBI double by Collins Cuthrell and an RBI single by Andre Mercurio.
Taylor Oldham had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the sixth and eighth innings and singled in the first and ninth innings.
Tyler Murphy ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed four runs.
The Florence Freedom were sparked by Oldham and Cuthrell, who teamed up for six hits and four RBIs.
