Story by Narrative Science.

The Joliet Slammers (19-14) shut the door early on the Schaumburg Boomers (16-16), capturing a 9-1 victory on Saturday at Silver Cross Field.

With eight runs in the first three innings, the Joliet Slammers left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

A two-run single by Casey Fletcher, a solo home run by Phillip Bates, and a two-run home run by Bates in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Joliet Slammers.

The Schaumburg Boomers had no answer for Shane Bryant, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Schaumburg Boomers managed just one hit off of Bryant, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out two during his six innings of work.

Scott Schultz (2-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed eight runs in four innings, walked one and struck out one.

The Joliet Slammers' Denzel Richardson, Bates, Bell and Fletcher combined for 10 hits and seven RBIs.
