Rodriguez's triple propels the Joliet Slammers past the Gateway Grizzlies, 5-2

The Joliet Slammers (10-11) built an early lead against the Gateway Grizzlies (9-12), scoring three runs in the first inning, en route to a 5-2 win on Saturday at Silver Cross Field.

The Joliet Slammers scored in the first on an RBI triple by Alfredo Rodriguez and a two-run double by Jake Gronsky.

Rodriguez put himself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for the Joliet Slammers.

The Joliet Slammers relied on Spencer Medick to eat up innings en route to the win. Medick allowed two earned runs, four hits and five walks while striking out two over seven innings of work.

Craig Massoni got on base three times in the game for the Gateway Grizzlies. He scored one run and had two RBIs. He homered in the first inning.

Corey Kimes couldn't get it done on the hill for the Gateway Grizzlies, taking a loss. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed five runs.

The Joliet Slammers were sparked by Gronsky and Rodriguez, who teamed up for five hits and three RBIs.
