Pete Perez was cold coming off the bench, but Perez warmed up quickly as Perez stroked a key pinch-hit single in the nine to lead the Southern Illinois Miners (34-19) to a 10-9 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts (19-32) on Saturday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL.

With the score tied at nine in the ninth inning, Perez came to the plate and singled.

A walk-off double by Aaron Gates gave the Southern Illinois Miners the win.

Gates racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He singled in the sixth inning and doubled in the tenth inning.

Ryan Deitrich hit two home runs for the Windy City ThunderBolts. Deitrich went 2-4 in the game with three RBIs and three runs scored. Deitrich homered in the second and fourth innings.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 19 total runs and 29 hits during the game. Managers of the two teams seemingly emptied their bullpens in search of the win, as there were 10 pitchers used in the game.

Perez recorded his second win of the year for the Southern Illinois Miners. He allowed two runs over two innings. He struck out none, walked one and surrendered three hits.

Joel Lima (2-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed one run.

Michael Earley, Adrian English, Niko Vasquez and Frank Martinez helped lead the Southern Illinois Miners. They combined for nine hits and four RBIs.
