Tyler Tewell hit two home runs to carry the Gateway Grizzlies (40-50) to a 7-1 win over the Southern Illinois Miners (61-30) at GCS Ballpark.
The Gateway Grizzlies' bats came to life in the first inning. In the inning the Gateway Grizzlies scored five runs. The Gateway Grizzlies scored in the first on a three-run home run by Ben Waldrip, a solo home run by Tewell, and a two-run home run by Tewell.
The Gateway Grizzlies relied on Jordan Spencer to eat up innings en route to the win. Spencer pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out five.
Ryan Brockett ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked three and struck out three.
Waldrip, Tewell and Blake Brown helped lead the Gateway Grizzlies. They combined for four hits and seven RBIs.
