Mende's two-run blast propels the Washington Wild Things past the Windy City ThunderBolts, 4-2

Three first-inning runs helped the Washington Wild Things (33-46) to a 4-2 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts (33-45) at CONSOL Energy Park on Tuesday.

The Washington Wild Things scored in the first on a two-run home run by Sam Mende and a solo home run by Scott Kalamar.

Kalamar was hot from the plate for the Washington Wild Things. Kalamar went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run.

Steve Messner had an impressive outing against the Windy City ThunderBolts' lineup. Messner held the Windy City ThunderBolts hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Max White had a hot bat for the Windy City ThunderBolts. White went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the seventh inning.

Matt Fraudin improved to 2-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Washington Wild Things. He allowed two runs over six innings. Fraudin struck out three, walked one and gave up six hits.

Austin Wright (4-10) took the loss for the Windy City ThunderBolts. He lasted just eight innings, walked three, struck out 11, and allowed four runs.
