Poma helps the Washington Wild Things down the Florence Freedom 2-1

The Washington Wild Things (13-22) beat the Florence Freedom (14-21) 2-1 in seven innings on Wednesday at UC Health Stadium behind Daniel Poma, who went 2-4 and hit a home run.

He homered in the first inning and singled in the seventh inning.

Luke Wilkins pitched lights out for the Washington Wild Things. The Florence Freedom managed just three hits off of the the Washington Wild Things' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out three during his five innings of work.

A bright spot for the Florence Freedom in the defeat was Jeremy Gooding, who allowed only two runs while striking out seven.

Kyle Carter was hot from the plate for the Florence Freedom. Carter went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the second inning.

Gooding ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year.
