The Lake Erie Crushers (10-19) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 3-1 ballgame against the Normal CornBelters (18-13) on Saturday at The Corn Crib.
While the Lake Erie Crushers led until the sixth inning, the Normal CornBelters worked their way back and took the lead on a two-run single by Sam Judah.
Jason Merjano was solid at the plate for the Normal CornBelters. Merjano went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the sixth inning.
Kevin Johnson got the win for the Normal CornBelters thanks to six strikeouts. Johnson allowed no earned runs, five hits and one walk over seven innings.
Despite the loss, the Lake Erie Crushers' Rob Blanc dominated the Normal CornBelters' batters, giving up two runs and striking out six.
Blanc was charged with his second loss of the year.
