Early lead not enough for the Washington Wild Things, drop 5-3 decision to the Evansville Otters

The Washington Wild Things (37-47) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 5-3 ballgame against the Evansville Otters (52-32) on Thursday at CONSOL Energy Park.

A two-run home run by John Schultz gave the Evansville Otters the lead in the ninth inning.

Schultz racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Evansville Otters. He singled in the first inning and homered in the ninth inning.

Will Oliver handled the Washington Wild Things' lineup with ease, racking up 11 strikeouts. Oliver allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks over seven innings.

Daniel Poma had a hot bat for the Washington Wild Things. Poma went 2-4 and scored two runs. He tripled in the first inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Blake Monar recorded his second win of the year for the Evansville Otters. Monar struck out one, walked none and gave up no hits.

Pat Butler was charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
