Burney helps the Lake Erie Crushers down the Joliet Slammers 5-4

Joey Burney collected three hits, helping the Lake Erie Crushers (2-2) to a 5-4 victory over the Joliet Slammers (0-4) on Tuesday at Silver Cross Field.

He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first and seventh innings.

The Joliet Slammers couldn't get anything going as long as Mike Devine was pitching. The Joliet Slammers managed just one hit off of Devine, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his 1 2/3 innings of work.

Despite the loss, the Joliet Slammers' Andrew Strenge dominated the Lake Erie Crushers' batters, giving up zero runs and striking out seven.

Brad Duffy recorded his second win of the year for the Lake Erie Crushers. Duffy struck out none, walked none and gave up one hit.

David Kubiak (0-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked none, struck out five, and allowed five runs.
