The Southern Illinois Miners (49-33) failed to take advantage of Aaron Gates's effort at the plate on Sunday, losing 11-9 to the River City Rascals (50-31) at T. R. Hughes Ballpark.

Gates blasted two home runs for the Southern Illinois Miners. Gates went 4-5 in the game with four RBIs and two runs scored. Gates homered in the sixth and ninth innings.

Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 20 runs and 24 hits, including zero extra base hits. Managers of the two teams seemingly emptied their bullpens in search of the win, as there were 10 pitchers used in the game.

Hector Crespo racked up two RBIs on two hits for the River City Rascals. He homered in the third inning and singled in the eighth inning.

Tim Koons improved to 4-4 on the year by picking up the win for the River City Rascals. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered nine hits.

Rick Teasley (9-4) took the loss for the Southern Illinois Miners. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.
