Vargas' single propels the Traverse City Beach Bums past the Southern Illinois Miners, 8-7

Seven first-inning runs helped the Traverse City Beach Bums (36-52) to an 8-7 win over the Southern Illinois Miners (52-36) at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday.

The Traverse City Beach Bums scored in the first on an RBI single by Jose Vargas, a two-run double by Jovan Rosa, a two-run single by Josh Miller, an RBI single by Jeff DeBlieux, and an RBI single by Greg Harisis.

The Traverse City Beach Bums were led by Vargas' hitting. Vargas went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs.

A bright spot for the Southern Illinois Miners in the defeat was Britt Robertshaw, who allowed only zero runs while striking out seven.

Tanner Tripp recorded his third win for the Traverse City Beach Bums even though he allowed five runs over six innings. He struck out none, walked two and surrendered seven hits.

Michael Carden was charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out one.
