The Southern Illinois Miners (49-33) put in a full day's work in a 10-inning, 6-3 win over the Rockford Aviators (33-49) Sunday at Aviator Stadium.
With the score tied at three, Chris Burke came to the plate and homered, scoring Niko Vasquez and Frank Martinez.
Vasquez reached base three times in the game for the Southern Illinois Miners. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the first inning and homered in the sixth inning.
The Rockford Aviators couldn't get anything going so long as Derrick Miramontes was on the hill. Miramontes held the Rockford Aviators hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Eric Cendejas had an impressive outing against the Southern Illinois Miners' lineup. Cendejas gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his two innings of work.
Matt Frahm (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
