Extra-inning thriller favors the Gateway Grizzlies, 5-3 winners over the Traverse City Beach Bums

The Gateway Grizzlies (34-19) needed 10 innings on Friday to take down the Traverse City Beach Bums (21-31) 5-3 at Wuerfel Park.

With the score tied at three, Ben Waldrip came to the plate and singled, scoring Michael Wing and TJ Bennett.

JaVaun West handled the Traverse City Beach Bums' lineup with ease, racking up nine strikeouts. West allowed two earned runs, four hits and one walk over seven innings.

Ian MacDougall was effective even in defeat, mowing down nine the Gateway Grizzlies batters and allowing two runs.

Richard Barrett got the win, running his season record to 2-1. He allowed one run over one inning. Barrett struck out one, walked none and gave up two hits.

D.J. Johnson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed two runs.
