The Joliet Slammers take out the Washington Wild Things with help from DeBruin, 6-2

Grant DeBruin went 2-4 and hit a home run, sparking the Joliet Slammers (12-15) to a 6-2 victory over the Washington Wild Things (18-9) on Sunday at CONSOL Energy Park.

He homered in the sixth inning and singled in the eighth inning.

The Washington Wild Things had no answer for Jordan Wellander, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Washington Wild Things managed just two hits off of the the Joliet Slammers' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out five during his four innings of work.

A bright spot for the Washington Wild Things in the defeat was Alex Kaminsky, who allowed only three runs while striking out five.

Stewart Ijames paced the Washington Wild Things at the plate. Ijames went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the ninth inning.

Jake Hermsen got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed one run over five innings. Hermsen struck out three, walked none and gave up four hits.

Kaminsky ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year.
